Those pigs used in the production of Teruel Ham are at least eight months old and of this total time, they are fed milk for one and a half months and barley for the remaining six and a half months.

To be butchered, the final weight of the pig should be between 115 and 130 kilograms. Males must be castrated before being fattened up.
